Beyond the traditional string quartet
ASCENSION QUARTET · TWO CELLOS, VIOLIN & VIOLA
A traditional string quartet has one cello. We have two. We reimagined the quartet from the ground up, with one violin, one viola, and two cellos, to create a sound that's fuller, warmer, and made to fill the heart as well as the room.
Behind that sound are four musicians who have spent their lives on stage. Mari is a Juilliard-trained cellist named one of CBC Music's 30 Top Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30, with performances at Carnegie Hall. Ine-Wilme is a Berklee-trained cellist whose music videos have reached more than 135,000 viewers. Lydia is concertmaster of the Edmonton Pops Orchestra. Susanna is a concerto competition winner who trained at the NAC Orchestra's Institute for Orchestral Studies.
Our mission is to ascend beyond what a string quartet is expected to be, and create an intimate musical experience that pulls at the heartstrings of everyone in the room.
